Hello everyone,
I guess I was getting kind of bored and thought we could all use something to make us think about our lives and how different the world is today. There is some pretty interesting stuff on this web site I went to this morning. I have been there for about an hour. Pretty cool. Here is the link...
Ok so the link did not show up....how about copy and paste this address....
http://www.infoplease.com/year/1970.html
It should open on the year I was born. If you scroll to the bottom you can enter in any year you wish, well only the ones available. It gives you a bunch of useful/useless info that I thought was pretty cool. In case you needed a break from the monotony. I know I did.

Thanks for suggesting this link!
ReplyDeleteI tried out a few key words to get a sense of the gender/race viewpoint of the authors of the site. Very interesting results!
By keying in terms such as "Native American", "black", "white", "anglo" there is a range of differences in how race and gender are being constructed as norms in this cyber space. Do you think the norming is intentional or unconscious? Do you think the authors are adding to the norming process or challenging? (Note the advertisement at the top of the page about women's waist lines and dieting to "improve" their appearance.) Thanks for sharing this site! --Margo Tamez
I hadn't even thought about gender or anything related to it when I visited this site. I just went for fun but i will go back and check it out further. I did not get a sense of anything being overtly intentional. Now that you mention it I will be looking for it more often.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michele
